Ludhiana --- The Sind, Punjab & Delhi Railway completed the 483 km long Amritsar-Ambala-Saharanpur-Ghaziabad line in 1870 connecting Multan (now in Pakistan) with Delhi which results opening of Ludhiana station in 1870. The station became a junction of the Ludhiana-Jakhal line laid by the Southern Punjab Railway Co in 1901 and Macleodganj (now in Pakistan)-Ludhiana line laid by Southern Punjab Railway Co in 1905. The Sahnewal-Chandigarh rail link was commissioned in 2013. The station have 7 platforms with stoppage of around 200 trains. Ludhiana also have Diesel as well as Electric locomotive shed. The DLS currently holds around 90+ nos. of WDM3A class locos, 40+ WDM2 class & variants, about 45+ WDG3A class locos. The ELS currently holds 157 nos. of WAG7 class locos along with 10 nos. of WAP4 class locomotives. Station code - LDH.
