Amritsar --- The station opened in 1862 with the opening of Amritsar-Attari section on the route to Lahore built by The Sind, Punjab and Delhi railway. The Multan-Lahore-Amritsar line was completed in 1865. Amritsar-Pathankot line was opened in 1884. A 54 km long line links Amritsar to Dera Baba Nanak on the bank of the Ravi. Another 78 km long line links Amritsar to Khemkaran. Amritsar junction acts as the gateway to the historic places in & around the Amritsar City. The famous Golden temple is about 3.2 km, Jallianwallah Bagh is at 3.6 km, Durgiana temple within 2 km, Palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh is at a distance of 4.4 km. Wagah - the international border with Pakistan is just 25 km from Amritsar junction. The station have 6 platforms. It is an important terminal.
