This NMR bogie frame is another important indoor exhibit of NMR museum. It helps to understand the complete operation of a rack & pinion adhesive railway system by which train runs between Cunnoor & Mettupalayam section of NMR.
NMR coaches & wagons are provided with plain bearing with axle brass arrangement inside the axle box. The axle brass is designed with white metal. The lubrication is with coventional roll packing with axle oil medium and the white waste.
NMR coaches are IRS bogie provided with pinion wheel which is fitted at the middle on the front axle & is free to rotate on the axle. When the pinion brakes are applied partially by the brakesman on a descending train, the speed is controlled and the wheels have a smooth movement on the rails.
