Venad Express --- It was among the very few Intercity trains of India with characteristic livery. Being introduced in 1972 as a diesel-hauled meter-gauge intercity commuter with a beautiful green liveried coaches, used to run between Trivandrum Central & Ernakulam taking around 4 hours to complete each turn. In 1976 the line was converted into broad-gauge and in 1980s Double-decker coaches were introduced for Venad express, which were withdrawn shortly due to technical snags. With the advent of new age ICF coachs with pneumatic air-brakes, these new unique liveried rake were allotted to one of the oldest intercity train of Kerala. It was later extended to Shoranur via Thrissur and currently this train with normal LHB rakes plys once daily, to & fro, between Shoranu & Thiruvananthapuram - a distance of 327 km with an avergae journey time of 7 hrs & 50 mins. The old coach ICF rake (in the photo) used to comprised of 1 AC Chair Car, 2 Reserved Non-ac Chair Cars, 16 Unreserved Non-ac Chair Cars, 1 Pantry car & 2 GSLRD coaches. Type - WGSCZ, WGSCZAC, WGCAB & GSLRD.
