Bogie Flat Rail-Carrying Wagon --- Indian railways currently procuring 130 m long 90 UTS rails from Bhilai Steel Plant. But it has been observed that a lot of these 90 UTS rails turned out to be defective and in most cases the defects are generated during transportation, unloading & track laying operations. An attempt has been made in tackling these problems associated during handling of these rails. After manufacturing & stacking these 130 m long rails are loaded on modified BRH (18 cars with 104 panels of 130 m length) End Unloading Rakes. The rail panels are loaded in maximum of 4 layers & each layer have maximum of 13 panels.
The rail panels from the end unloading rakes are unloaded using Threader Wagon fitted with chute (as seen in the above photo). Before taking the rake for unloading, one Threader Wagon & two empty modified flat rail-carrying cars fitted with rollers are attached at the end. The present system is that the free end of the outermost panels are taken through the chutes of the Threader wagon with the help of wire rope & is anchored to the track. The rake is then moved forward at crawling speed & the panels gets unloaded on the cess.
This Threader Wagon is a modified version of bogie flat rail-carrying wagons equipped with Casnub 22 HS bogie with air brake. O-14 I-12 S-4 type spring & non-transition CBC coupling. Capacity - 64 Tonnes. Type - BFR.
