The 'epic era' of India's transformation in transportation field has some special moments which have been preserved by rail museums around the country. Orange City has also got a share of some of these special moments with Nagpurians telling the unique story of the history of Indian rail.
The Narrow Gauge Rail Museum, located in Kadbi Chowk, Kamptee Road, Nagpur is the only one of its kind rail museum in India, inaugurated on 14th December 2002, on the eve of 150th Anniversary of Indian Railways. With its sprawling gardens spread over an area of over four acres, the museum is built over the site of the former S. E. Railway broad gauge steam locoshed, and is a vast repository of antiquarian objects that sets out to document the technology used on the Satpura and other narrow gauge railways since earliest times.
This museum serves as Infotainment Park for the visitors by not only disseminating information about narrow-gauge system of yesteryears but also has various entertainment activities like Toy Train, Revolving Restaurant on wheels, amusement park, auditorium etc. Visiting hours for the museum : 11 am to 9 pm from April to September & 10 am to 8 pm from October to March. Entry fee is ₹ 30 for Adults & ₹ 10 for Children. Museum remains closed on Mondays & national holidays.
