Kolkata Metro BHEL/Knorr-Bremse AC Rakes (3000 series) --- These are the first AC metro trains that were pressed into service in 2010, after the extention of North-South corridor (Line 1) in the form of elevated corridor from Tollygunj (Mahanayak Uttam Kumar) to NewGaria (Kavi Subhash) was completed. These trains are manufactured by ICF in collaboration with BHEL and Knorr Bremse, Germany. They have microprocessor controlled temperature and humidity, LCD displays inside the motorman's cabins and multilingual electronic LED sign boards to fecilitate passenger information system. Presently there are thirteen AC rakes operating on Kolkata Metro Line 1. These new generation AC rakes come with total horse power of 5449 hp with an average operating speed of 35 kmph (80 kmph max.). These rakes runs on 750 V DC drawn from electrified 3rd rail. With elongated coach size (20.3m) average capacity of an AC rake of eight coaches is 3130 persons approx.
