Kolkata Metro BHEL Rakes (1000 Series) --- A total of nine rakes were manufactured by Integral Coach Factory, Chennai in collaboration with Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL) and were passed into service in the first phase in 1984 when Kolkata metro initially ran from Esplanade to Bhawanipur (now Netaji Bhavan). Those rakes were bottle-green in colour with an yellow stripe at the bottom. Later the colour was changed to white with a dark blue stripe. Presently they are yellow with brown bands at the bottom. The rakes are numbered from B1 to B9. Total Horse Power of these rakes are 3036 hp with an average operating speed of 30 kmph (55 kmph max.). These rakes runs on 750 V DC drawn from electrified 3rd rail. With 19.5 meter coach size, average capacity of each rake of eight coaches is 2400 persons approx.
