RamGotty --- It is one of the most beautiful and rare steam locomotive built in the year 1862 by Anjubault of Paris, France. This 20 ton 0-4-0 side tank steamer was the only locomotive in India equipped with Gooch link motion valve gear fitted outside & also had unusual small sleek safety valves. Ramgotty was aquired by the Indian Branch Railway Company (a private railway) in 1863, which opened a 27 km line from Nalhati to Azimganj operated on an unusual 4' gauge railway. She was named after Shri Ramgotty Mukherjee, the last General Manager of Nalhati Azimganj Light Railway. In 1892 converted to 5'6" gauge by Jamalpur Works for use on East India Railway. The loco became a shunter at Jamalpur until sold to Calcutta Municipal Corporation for refuse hauling in 1951. In its centenary year, Ramgotty was scrapped, but in 1974 it was rescued & returned to Jamalpur & now one of the prime indoor exhibit of National Rail Museum. Photographed by Rattri.
