HPS2-24467 --- Built in the year 1950 by the Vulcan Foundry Limited of Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire, England, this majestic broad-gauge steamer with 'Ten-wheeler' 4-6-0 type wheel configuration and a maximum speed of 90 kmph, became the standard class of locomotive for passenger hauls in IR until the advent of WP class. The HPS/2 was in fact a derivative from an earlier HP class locomotives. It was reclassified as HPS after superheated version was developed. A superheater converts steam into dry/superheated steam to decrease the loss of energy due to condensation, leading to an increase in the efficiency of the locomotive. The loco is equipped with Walschaert's valve & weighs around 58 tonnes with a tractive effort of 11.2 tons and an axle load of 19 tons. Now resting at National Rail Museum, New Delhi.
