HP-31412 --- One of the only ten HP class locomotives ever built. Known for its trips across the Thar, this powerful 57 ton meter-gauge passenger locomotive was imported from Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadelphia, USA for Jodhpur railway & was built in the year 1948 with 'Pacific type' 4-6-2 wheel configuration. Uniqueness of this class of locos were the massive 12-wheeled tender that weighed 65 tons and carried 27000 litres of water along with 10 tons of coal, enabling them of prolonged runs through the Dessert without stopping for coal or water - only locomotive class in India with this exclusive feature.
