Delhi Junction --- It is the oldest railway station of Delhi city. Established in 1864, near Chandni Chowk, when trains from Howrah started operating up to Delhi. Its present building was constructed in 1900 by the British in red sandstone to give the effect of nearby historic Red Fort and opened to public in 1903. Since then it has been an important railway station of India & its capital. The station started with a broad gauge train from Calcutta in 1864. Metre gauge track from Delhi to Rewari and further to Ajmer was laid in 1873 by Rajputana Railways and metre gauge trains from this station started in 1876. Started with just 2 platforms and 1000 passengers, it now handles more than 180,000 passengers daily. With 18 platforms in total, this station have stoppage for around 60 trains. Nearly 84 trains originates/terminates at this junction. This station is also a favorite railfanning destination for TT. Station Code - DLI.
