Mughalsarai --- The junction came into existance when East Indian Railway Company started connecting Delhi and Howrah from the mid nineteenth century. In 1862, the railway tracks crossed Mughalsarai and reached the western bank of the Yamuna. The through link to Delhi was established in 1866. The Dufferin Bridge across the Ganges was opened in 1887, connecting Mughalsarai to Varanasi. The Grand Chord was commissioned in 1906. The station is located in Chandauli district of UP. Mughalsarai junction enjoys the position of the largest railway marshalling yard of Asia. Yard of Mughalsarai Railway Junction is the longest Railway freight yard in India and 2nd longest in world. It is 12.5 km long and handles around 1,500 wagons daily. The largest wagon repair workshop of Indian Railways is located at Mughalsarai. The junction have 8 platforms and stoppage of over 250 trains. Mughalsarai has a Eletcric Locomotive Shed which currently houses around 22 nos. of WAM4, 67 nos. of WAP4 & 100+ WAG7 class locomotives. And Mughalsarai also has a Diesel Locomotive Shed which holds around 50 nos. WDM2 & 3A variants, 12 nos. of WDS locos, about 5 nos. of WDG3A variants & current inclusions of two WDG4 EMD class locos.
