Erode --- This is the main railway station serving the city of Erode. The station was established in 1947 and was connected by the first electrified broad gauge link from Chennai Central. Erode Junction loco shed is one among the very few stations in India which houses both diesel and electrical locomotives (other sheds are HWH, BNDM, MGS, TKD, LDH, JHS, KZJ, VSKP, BZA). The ELS have 118 nos. WAP4 class locos & 83 nos. WAG7 class locos. The DLS currently holds 51 nos. of WDM3D class locos, 18 nos. of WDM3A class locos, 38 nos. of WDM2 class locos & 11 WDG4 class EMD locos.
