postage stamp on 1853 GIP No.1 steam locomotive - 1976

Steam Locomotive GIP No.1 --- This steam locomotive represents the earliest locos deployed in India for the service in Bombay-Thana section. The Great Indian Peninsular Railway ordered eight locomotives from Vulcan Foundry, England. These engines GIP Nos 1-8 were manufactured in 1852, bearing maker's numbers 32-331 and were, excepting two contractor's locomotives of 1851, the earliest types in the locomotive history of IR. The first locomotive deployed on service in 1853. The stamp issued on 30th April 1976 with denomination 200p (₹ 2/-).
