postage stamp on howrah station - 2009

Howrah Station --- Commemorative postage stamp issued by IndiaPost on the Heritage Railway Stations of India. Howrah station is one of the Heritage structure which has a predominance of arches with a touch of contemporary British architecture & local trappings as depicted in the stamp. Started with just 5 carriages of only one train Howrah station now is among the largest railway stations in the world caters to all major cities of India, handles over a million passengers a day through 23 platforms & over 350 pairs of trains. From within its magnificant archaic structure, huge crowds & olden day charm of this great monument make this a wonderful destination. It became & still remains a gateway to entire eastern & north-eastern India. Issued on 16th August 2009 with denomination 500p (₹ 5/-).
