horse-drawn tram car

Photograph of the horse-drawn tram car that began service between Sealdah and Armenian Ghat via Bowbazar Street, Dalhousie Square, Customs House and Strand Road in 1873. This photo was taken from the Great Eastern Hotel roof-top in the 1890s. One can see the St. Andrew's Church (1818), the Central Telegraph Office or the Dead Letter Office (1876) - the left building with tower & a glimpse of Writers' Building (1780) in between the Church & Telegraph building.
