maharaja wadiyar of mysore saloon (1899)

Built in 1899, this saloon was part of a special three coach train used by Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar of Mysore & his family. The other two coaches of the train namely the Maharani's Coach & the Kitchen car is kept at Ragional Rail Museum, Mysore. This particular exhibit is a wooden bodied eight wheeler having a steel under frame & has a provision for vestibule to enable it to be connected with rest of the train. A special feature of this saloon is that it can run both in meter-guage & in broad gauge tracks by changing bogies during the journey, without disturbing the royal occupants. Original furnishings, beautiful floral pattern painted on the ceilings & brass fenced varandah is still retained as a part of original design.
