maharani's saloon car & the kitchen/dining car (1889)

Built in 1899 by Hurst and Nelson of UK, these two saloon cars namely the Maharani's Saloon Coach & the Kitchen/dining car were part of a special three coach train used by Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar of Mysore & his family. The other Maharaja's Sallon Car is kept at National Rail Museum, New Delhi. These cars are wooden-bodied eight wheelers having a steel under frame & has a provision for vestibule to enable it to be connected with rest of the train. A special feature of this saloon is that it can run both in meter-guage & in broad gauge tracks by changing bogies during the journey, without disturbing the royal occupants. Original furnishings, beautiful floral pattern painted on the ceilings & brass fenced varandah is still retained as a part of original design. The Saloon has bedroom with chandeliers, kitchen, dining room, wash room and a servant room.
