WAP1 Class Locomotives

The Loco Story :

Built by Chittaranjan Locomotive Works first in 1980.

Maximum speed limit - 130 kmph.

Modified and regeared versions ofthe WAM-4 class.

Initially fitted with air brakes and vacuum train brakes but later retrofitted for dual train brakes.

Initially used only to haul the Howrah - NewDelhi Rajdhani Express.

A single WAP-1 can haul a 18-coach train at a maximum speed of 120 km/h. and an average speed of around 82km/h.


Technicalities :

Traction Motors --- Alstom-CLW built - TAO 659 - 770 hp, 750 V, 1095 rpm.

Transformer --- BHEL built HETT-3900, 3900 kVA.

Motors are grouped in 2S-3P combination. Weak-field operation available.

Rectifiers --- Silicon rectifiers, two in number.

Compressor --- ELGI India Compressors

Axle load --- 18.8 tonnes

Loco weight --- 112.8 tonnes

Bogie type --- Co-Co Flexicoil

Pantograph --- FTI (Faiveley Transport India) AM-12
