Humsafar Express --- Indian railways introduced a new type of trains called Humsafar Express in December 2016 as promised in 2016/17 railway budget by MoR. These fully air-conditioned rakes comprising only AC 3-tier vestibuled sleeper coaches, will run for inter-city overnight journeys and has been designed specifically for middle-class passengers. The Humsafar trains, which comes with an anti-graffiti vinyl coating similar to the Maharaja Express coaches, has been facilitated with numerous features meant to provide luxury to middle-class passengers. Here are some of the unique features that Humsafar Express will offer its passengers:-

Keeping in mind the long standing complaint regarding side lower berth by the passengers, a detachable board has been introduced by IR which can be placed on top after joining the two side seats. The move has been put to effect with the consideration that the passengers do not go through the ordeal of backaches. The berths of Humsafar Express are more comfortable than the normal 3-tier AC sleepers with Khadi bedrolls. Coaches comes with refurbished interiors with shades of upholstery that are on the lighter side. The Humsafar coaches features side curtains on corridors like AC 2-tier to maintain privacy. Curtains are fully fire retardant. Humsafar coaches features USB charging points next to the berths for charging mobiles/laptops etc. The central aisle have LED-indicators which displays the seat numbers & LCD display above compartment doors in the aisle which shows real-time info about the train speed & upcoming stations, each cabin has dustbins, mirrors & racks. Apart from those, Humsafar coaches also facilitated with features like real-time CCTV monitoring, Global Positioning System (GPS) - based passenger information system, integrated braille display for the visually impaired, highly sensitive smoke detection and suppression system, hygienic lavatories with odour flushing system & a two-step floor to contain flow of water near the wash basin. The toilets are are equipped a occupancy indicator display, sensor-based men's urinal based on NID design & baby seats for changing diapers. Every coach comes with an automated tea/coffee vending machine and a mini pantry with an oven and a fridge. Another interesting feature is the colourful anti-graffiti exteriors, which usually accompanied by reflective destination boards that glow in the night as well as reflective 3D numbering.
