BG ICF Utkrisht Double-Decker Coaches --- Project ‘Utkrisht’ which aimed at upgrading Mail/Express train rakes saw the daylight with the revamp of Howrah-Kalka Mail and completed upgradation of 140 rakes in the first phase with much success and positive feedback. And in the 2nd phase, upgradation of 500 more rakes are in progress, due to which the only non-ac Double-Decker Intercity trains of India were also upgraded - the Flying Ranee along with MMCT-BL Fast Passenger - which also got a share of Utkrisht DD coaches. Type - WGDCZ.

Project 'Utkrisht' rakes have certain upgraded features. The coaches have PU painting with Utkrist colour scheme on the exterior - beige and maroon. The coaches also have anti-graffiti vinyl wrapping in doorway and gangway area, train time table, coach indication boards and dustbins in the gangway area with Hydrophobic coating on all stainless steel items and coach exterior, USB charging points, acrylic mobile adapter and digital wall clock. The coaches have energy-efficient LED Lighting for better illumination, Braille Signage for the convenience of visually impaired passengers. & WiFi hotspot system with inbuilt 500 hours content for en-route entertainment. Passenger information system has also been installed to provide information regarding upcoming stations. Most importantly, with Project Utkrisht, Indian Railways is addressing a common complaint of passengers – stinking toilets !!! All coaches of the revamped Utkrisht rakes have been fitted with ‘Swachh Rail Toilet’, which not only reduces water consumption while flushing, but also makes sure that the stench is minimal - an advanced hybrid design of Bio-Toilet System, Choke free system and Complete odour sealing design and in order to prevent water stagnation in the washrooms, anti-skid tiling with proper slope has been provided. For conservation of water, a metered dual flush valve having two step flush with 1.5-litre water and 4-litre water have been installed. With Venturi type ventilation, the toilets have improved window louvres, plush interiors with silver metallic and aluminium composite panel.
