Going with the name, Sir Gurudas Banerjee was the first Indian Vice-Chancellor of University of Calcutta who also was an eminent judge in the Calcutta High Court. The adjoining areas of Sealdah are served by this station. The South section bypass line meets the North section lines beyond this station.
