A pivotal station which works like a fulcrum in the Kolkata Circular Railway Network. The station is of prime importance as it not only serves as the junction to various suburban sections of ER but also hosts the first ever Metro corridor of India -- the DumDum-Tollygunge (now from Noapara upto New Garia) stretch. The Circular Railway journey both begins and concludes at this juncture.
