Kolkata Tram - 227 --- White stallion !!! A beautiful Kidderpore depot based, fiber-body tramcar (erstwhile a SLC class) of Route # 36 service from Kidderpore to Esplanade was spotted near Red road crossing just oposite to the Fort William on a hot afternoon. Photographed by Roy on 14th June 2012.
A line was commissioned in the year 1902 from Esplanade to Kidderpore following the completion of electrification & subsequesntly to Kalighat in same year later. Hence came the d-day when first electric tram of Asia ran on this route on 27th March 1902 from Esplanade to Kidderpore. Later on 14th June 1902 Esplanade to Kalighat fully electrified line via Kidderpore Watgunj junction, Mominpore, Judges Court road was also commissioned. Later these two routes were numbered as Route # 36 & Route # 31 respectively. Later in the year 1908, another line from Esplanade to Behala via Watgunj, Mominpore & Majerhat was also commissioned which was later numbered as Route # 35 along with a new route also opned soon from Kalighat to Behala as Route # 27 which later become Ballygunge to Behala. Later during post-independence era the line was further extended from Behala upto Joka hence Route # 37 was introduced.
