Kolkata Tram - 201 --- During early 40s, around 16 tramcars of Bombay Electric Supply & Tramways (BEST) was transferred to Calcutta Tramways. These tramcars were originally built by English Electric for New York Cable Car system which were later transferred to BEST during colonial era and subsequently 16 of those tramcars find their way to Calcutta (only the base trucks & Driving panels were transferred) where they were rebuilt with complete wooden-bodies & new exteriors by CTC Nonapukur Workshop.
Fondly called as 'Bombay Cars' these are actually K-class trams having characteristic round ends with more space for passengers in both the coaches. Driver's cab is also spacious than other trams (Sundari or Burn Standard trams). These trams were specially introduced for express routes and were extensively used in Calcutta Tram system until 2010. Now except one all the other cars lies in utter dismay waiting to get scrapped sooner or later in different depots around CTC network. # 201 is one of those 'Bombay cars' spotted deep inside Tollygunge depot which is still in perfect road-worthy condition but still lying defunct for years.
