You need not be a child to enjoy a visit to the Rail Museum. Formally known as the National Rail Transport Museum, it is located in Chanakyapuri & is every train-lover's delight. Spread over 10 acres of land, the museum was opened in February 1977. It is quite well known that India is a melting pot of various cultures & flavours. The Indian Railways (IR) is no less varied in its technology & history. From the divine luxury of the Palace on Wheels to the little cramped spaces of the Mumbai local trains; & from the snail pace of the Mettupalayam-Ooty line to the unsurpassed speed of the Shatabdi Express - Indian Railways has it all on offer. To get a real taste of the Indian culture & its traditions, a laid-back countrywide journey on the IR is the best way to go. But again, that isn't an option for most caught in the throes of work, family life & commitments. So the National Rail Museum offers an easier way out by laying out bare in front of the public the entire history & diverseness of the Indian Rail and its various accomplishments & advancements over the years.
