Tram which was once a popular mode of transport in Kolkata is now being protected as a heritage icon. This slow moving non-pollutant mode of transport still attracts attention from travellers across the globe. Efforts are being taken by different organisations to protect this mode of transport. Presently, EnVERT Foundation led by Joaquin Gonzalez Dorao, a travel illustrator from Spain, along with his team, has taken up the task to beautify the tram with paintings of historic sites and personalities from the city. This project -'Wheels of Joy'- is ably supported by West Bengal Tourism Department and Calcutta Tramways Company. The WBTC tramcar # 639 was chosen as the pilot project for the purpose. Framed by Roy at Tollygunj shed on 20th December 2016.
