BEML (Bharat Earth Movers Ltd.) took up the challenging task of redesigning the existing Corten steel EMU coach body with more modern Stainless Steel Carbody design. Each rake of SSEMU consists of 9 cars with modern electrical systems, energy saving lightings & modular roof-mounted forced ventilation system which supplies 16000 cubic m/hr fresh air into the passenger area. The first rake of 9 Cars designed and developed by BEML, have been successfully commissioned for Sealdah Division of Eastern Railways, Kolkata in August 2012. This became Nation's First Stainless Steel EMU.
