With 6.3 million passengers traveling per day, Indian Railways had a vision of developing a world-class infrastructure in Mumbai suburban railways, which would provide a comfortable and reliable railway system. Amongst the various innovations brought to effect, the installation of an intelligent braking system developed by Siemens way back in 2009, ensures that passengers enjoy a jerk-free ride while reducing carbon footprint. Those trains, later known as 'Siemens Rake', save energy by almost 30% with Siemens' innovative regenerative braking technology that transfers energy back to the grid during braking, resulting in substantial saving in the energy costs. This concept of electrical propulsion helps in the environment protection. These rakes were a hit among the commuters until the advent of 'Bomabadier' Rakes in 2015 and 'Medha' rakes from 2018 onwards.
One of the oldest among the fleet !!! A Siemens EMU of MRVC was spotted on regular commuter service while it was rushing towards Virar from Church Gate. Photographed by Somsubhra Das. D.O.P. - 9th February 2018.
