WDP1 Class Locomotives
The Loco Story :
Built by Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi first in 1995.
Maximum speed limit - 100 kmph. Power output of 2300 hp.
A poor adaptation of the WDM2 intended for hauling small passenger trains with limited coaches, this model never performed well and has always had poor ride quality and maintenance problems.
With a 12-cylinder engine and low overall weight, used to have a Bo-Bo wheelset, rather unsual for mainline IR diesels.
With left-hand driving position in the cab these are often manned by single loco pilot.
Homed at Tughlakabad and Vijaywada. Used mostly for ordinary passenger trains.
