ZE-24 --- A sad scene for any railfan !!! This narrow-gauge steamer, homed at Baripada steam shed was built in the year 1953 by Kawasaki Rolling Stock Mfg Co. Ltd. Kobe, Japan. This 2ft 6 inches gauge 2-8-2 locomotive once extensively used at the Rupsa-Baripada-Bangriposi narrow-gauge section of Mayurbhanj State railway (MSR) and was retired in the year 1992 when the steam locos were phased out. The railway was later got merged with SER (the then BNR). The century old line has seen the advent of diesel locos, gauge convertions and ultimately closure of Baripada loco shed resulting this locomotive lying under open sky at Baripada shed premises, in utter neglect, which has an eventful past to narrate. And we are so helpless nothing been done to preserve this dying heritage despite repeated reminders to the concerned authority. Photographed by Rudranil Roy Chowdhury. D.O.P. - 18th May 2018.
