YG-3438 'Sultan' --- The YG was the standard freight Locomotive operational on the meter gauge system on the Indian Railways. The YG class locos with 2-8-2T MacArthur type wheel arrangement has the distinction of the largest produced class of meter-gauge steam locomotives on the Indian Railway system counting to a staggering 1074 units most of them built by CLW and Telco. These majestic 866 hp locos comes with 10.65 ton axle load with a max. speed of 65 kmph. These locos during their heydays, were the most aesthetically pleasing locomotive designs with their large high-pitched boilers and smoke deflectors often painted with insignias of the shed they belonged.
This beautifully restored meter-gauge locomotive, once belonged to Kishanganj shed (Delhi), was built in the year 1962 by Tata Engineering & Locomotive Company (TELCO) and used to have 8500 kgs of tractive effort. This YG class locomotive nicknamed 'Sultan', used to haul the prestigious 'Palace on Wheels' & Royal Orient Express until its retirement in the year 1994.
