In 1989-91 GVB introduced 45 new articulated vehicles (numbers 817-841 and 901-920) built by BN in Bruges, Belgium. They were Amsterdam's first low-floor trams. This eventually leads to phasing out of old articulated three axle trams & LHB trams. In 1990, a new tramway to Buitenveldert and Amstelveen was ready to go. In 2002-04 the existing tram fleet was largely renewed by 155 new Siemens Combino trams (nos 2001-2151 and 2201-2204) of which four Combinos were specified as bidirectional vehicles, for use on line 5 to Amstelveen. This modernisation of fleet leds to complete removal of old articulated cars from the system.
In this picture a Siemens Combino tram - 2068 of GVB route-1 (Central Station - Osdorp De Aker via Leidseplein, Surinameplein & Station Lelylaan) was framed by Bani Das & Asit Baran Das near Amsterdam Central Railway Station on 10th May 2015.
